The Councilor has worked tirelessly to review electoral procedures, implementing Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in Boston, prioritize community engagement, and support community leadership.
During her time on the Council, Councilor Louijuene has worked to:
Improve Accessible Elections
Implement Ranked Choice Voting for municipal elections in Boston. Supporting Ranked Choice Voting by introducing and successfully passing a Home Rule Petition in support of RCV in Boston. Councilor Louijeune has been a vocal advocate for RCV and seeks to mitigate barriers in both voter and candidate participation.
Review elections procedures. After ballot shortages and delays in November 2024, the Councilor sponsored a hearing to review election procedures and prevent future disenfranchisement.
The City Council passed a home rule petition for RCV which puts voters first and strengthens our democracy. Thank you to all advocates, including Ranked Choice Boston, Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, RepresentUS, Lawyers for Civil Rights, Amplify Latinx, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston, Veterans for All Voters, Voter Choice Massachusetts, and MassVOTE who made this moment possible.
Prioritize Constituent Engagement
As part of her commitment to connect with residents, the Councilor hosted “Cocoa with the Councilor” hours across the city. Councilor Louijune’s priority is to hear directly from Bostonians about their needs, ideas, and hopes for the City.
As an At Large City Councilor, Councilor Louijeune makes it a priority to meet and engage with constituents all across the city. One of her favorite ways to do so is by hosting Cocoa with the Councilor in neighborhoods across the city.
Implement remote participation at City Hall. The Councilor co-sponsored an ordinance to codify remote participation in the meetings of public bodies. Virtual participation holds the potential to extend civic engagement opportunities outside of City Hall.
Support Community Leadership
Uplift civic engagement. The Councilor co-sponsored a hearing on increasing technical assistance to civic associations in the City of Boston. Councilor Louijeune understands the importance of supporting and uplifting community civic engagement organizations which increase equitable representation in the city.
