Public Safety

  • All residents should feel safe in their neighborhoods, and unfortunately we have lost too many lives to senseless gun violence. We know that this gun violence impacts marginalized communities at a significantly higher rate and this requires urgency to ensure safety in all of our neighborhoods. To address this, Councilor Louijeune cosponsored a hearing to discuss appropriate public health and safety responses in conjunction with the community. LINK 0143

  • Boston is home to many colleges and one of the fastest growing cities for young professionals, and it is important for us to do everything we can to support our growing nightlife. But we cannot do that without also ensuring that our residents can go out and enjoy themselves while also feeling safe. In response to the report of almost sixty incidences of drink spiking in the span of six months, Councilor Louijeune cosponsored a hearing to discuss prevention awareness and action on contaminated drinks. • Every year, fires in residential properties wreak havoc on the lives of families and individuals. In response to these tragedies, we often see communities pulling resources together to support their neighbors by way of bake sales, supply drives, and GoFundMe pages. To explore the ways that the City can take better responsibility for supporting displaced residents, Councilor Louijeune sponsored a hearing to discuss fire and emergency disaster relief services in the City of Boston and ensure that all relief funds are appropriately maintained and funded. • In many states across this country abortions are becoming illegal again, and the ability to find information on how to access safe and reliable information is getting harder. Being aware that there are crisis pregnancy centers operating in Boston, which present themselves as resources for individuals facing unplanned pregnancies are often not upfront about their intent to discourage abortions and instead mislead and manipulate their intentions, Councilor Louijeune sponsored a hearing to discuss the negative impacts these centers have on our residents.  LINK 0156
