Public Safety

As one of the safest major cities in the U.S., public safety remains a key issue to the Councilor. Building a safe and healthy City of Boston is a top priority of Councilor Louijeune as we strive to increase violence prevention, response, and recovery programs, while also prioritizing community health and public works.

During her two terms, Councilor Louijeune has done the following:

Expand Community Safety Initiatives

  • Find resources for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. The Councilor sponsored and held a hearing on the City of Boston’s response to resources for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. The Councilor identifies the need to increase resources for survivors, which relies upon the collaboration of law enforcement, advocacy organizations, and healthcare providers.

  • Prevent youth violence. The Councilor sponsored a hearing on a collaborative city-wide strategy for community safety and violence prevention. The Councilor advocates to increase opportunities for youth community engagement, mentorship, and professional resources to foster community safety.

In March 2025, Councilor Louijeune uplifted the work of Youth Guidance Boston through a resolution, which supports middle- and high-school students through in-school, trauma-informed group counseling programs–Becoming a Man (BAM) and Working on Womanhood (WOW).

  • Address gun violence throughout the City of Boston. The Councilor co-sponsored an order for a hearing on gun violence prevention, while also assessing the city’s support to families and individuals post-shooting.

  • Stand against human trafficking.  The Councilor passed a resolution that would ensure the commitment of the Boston City Council to advancing legislation, policies, and programs aimed at eradicating human trafficking, protecting victims, prosecuting offenders, and fostering international and interstate cooperation.

At a time when survivors’ resources are under threat, Councilor Louijeune brought community members and advocates together at Boston City Council to hear directly from those doing the work to address domestic violence and sexual assault.

Prioritize Equitable Response and Recovery

  • Support the Nubian Square Task Force. The Councilor co-sponsored a resolution for the Boston City Council and other organizations to work alongside the Nubian Square Task Force, which strives to increase recovery resources in a neighborhood facing disproportionate rates of homelessness and substance abuse disorder.

Increase Health and Wellbeing resources

  • Address food insecurity and increase long-term sustainable food access in East Boston. The Councilor co-sponsored a hearing to discuss barriers in East Boston to affordable healthy food and to close gaps in access to food security.

  • Provide access to safe and reliable information on abortion accessibility for residents. The Councilor sponsored a hearing to discuss the negative impact of misleading pregnancy crisis centers which distribute false and manipulative information intended to discourage abortion.

Improve Public Works

  • Combat waste overflow. The Councilor co-sponsored an order for a hearing on increasing and privatizing additional trash pickups for large buildings. Trash and waste management in the City of Boston is an essential tool in protecting the health, safety, and dignity of all residents.

  • Reduce litter from trash bags. The Councilor co-sponsored an order for a hearing on a pilot program for waste containerization. An increase in lidded containers for waste would reduce litter from trash bags and create a cleaner and safer environment for residents, while also limiting the presence of rodents.
